As Machado once wrote, “everything is in
accordance”. And that’s how Andrés
Marín wants his passion for
flamenco to be understood. His, and also that of his guests:
Lole, José de la Tomasa and Concha Vargas. Seeking
the contrast and connection with such genuine artists,
the Sevillian bailaor premieres the show ‘La pasión
según se mire’ at Festival de Jerez 2010
on March 3rd at the Teatro Villamarta. The show, in which
he shares the artistic directing with creator Pilar Albarracín,
also explores the tones of instruments like the tuba,
marimba and clarinet, facing those of the guitar and cante.
‘La pasión según se mire’ is
presented as one of his most personal shows. In the words
of J. L. Carcelén, “if something stands out
about Andrés Marín, it’s the energy
that moves him and the passion that drives him: for the
maestros, for cante, from the most absolute respect”.
And that’s where his inspiration stems from in this
new show, which comes out a year and a half after ‘El
cielo de tu boca’. It’s also a way of demonstrating
“the infinite admiration for his parents, his foremost
sources of art. Therein lies his loyalty to flamenco”,
the program leaflet indicates.
All of it is captured in the collaboration of three unique
artists: “Concha
Vargas, volcanic; Lole,
telluric; and José
de la Tomasa, dynastic. Artists and something more:
proof, irreplaceable in their flamenco core”. They
are, as Andrés Marín explains, “artists
with passions different from mine but, at the same time,
we have a point in common”. Just like the rest of
the troupe’s flamenco artists, including cantaores
José Valencia and Pepe de Pura, guitarists Salvador
Gutiérrez and David Marín, and percussionist
Antonio Coronel.
But he also takes a step further in his relationship
with contemporary music. The show’s soundtrack includes
tuba, clarinet and marimba, even incorporating scores
by Japanese musician Akira Miyoshi. To shape up the group,
Marín has creator Pilar Albarracín as artistic
director, with whom he had already worked in the action
for the video ‘Bailaré sobre tu tumba’.
The premiere will take place just a few days after Andrés
Marín returns from the Teatros del Canal in Madrid,
where from February 18th to 28th, he stars in the show
‘Poeta en Nueva York’ directed by Blanca Li.
