What are Palos?
Palos are the different rhythmical forms which make up flamenco. There are
four important palos within the toques in rhythm which are: soleares, bulerías,
seguiriyas and tientos. Although there are other basic forms which derive from
them due to their same rhythm or because the emotional nature is intimately linked
to them. Palos provide cante flamenco with a balance of majesty, drama and variety
of expression.

Flamenco is divided into several sub-genres called palos, which vary according
to the rhythms, the theme of the lyrics... The main palos are the soleares, tangos,
fandangos and seguiriyas, styles that have given rise to over thirty variations:
bulerías, cantiñas, malagueñas, alegrías... A good
cantaor will always know how to sing all the palos.

Palos are the different styles which exist in flamenco. Each palo has a rhythm,
an accentuation and a different speed, as well as a kind of lyrics. There is also
the case where two palos may have the same rhythm and only vary in the speed,
as occurs with tientos and tangos, or with the soleá and the bulería.
