Twelve years after Farruco presented
his own in ‘Bodas de gloria’, the family once
again stars in an audiovisual. Farruquito
takes over for the patriarch, starring in a flamenco dancing
show nearly two hours long with the family’s most
faithful trademark. La Farruca, Pilar la Faraona, Farru
and Barullo share the stage with the Sevillian bailaor
in this show without a storyline consisting of styles
such as the seguiriya, soleá, alegrías and
bulerías. The DVD, whose recording took place at
the 2006 Nîmes Flamenco Festival, also includes
previously unreleased photos, footage from the backstage
and a booklet in Spanish and English.
On January 28th and 29th, 2006, a great
stir was caused at the Thèâtre in Nîmes.
Farruquito offered three performances of his show ‘Farruquito
y familia’, which had the fans from the south of
France on the edge of their seats. And although the interruptions
by the cameras weren’t taken very well, in the end
it was all eclipsed by the artists on stage. The entire
Farruco family took the stage with a show without any
stories to tell, just consisting of their particular way
of understanding flamenco dancing.
And all of it is captured on the DVD
to be released on September 8th, 2008, just a few days
before Farruquito presents ‘Puro’ at Seville’s
15th Bienal de Flamenco. The main contents are the entire
show, nearly two hours in length. It includes opening
seguiriyas facing off Farruquito and Farru, bulerías
by Pilar la Faraona, a soleá begun by Farruquito
and picked up by his mother La
Farruca, a guajira by Farru in a duo with his aunt
Pilar, alegrías by Barullo and a grand finale moreover
including the performance of the youngest member of the
family, El Carpeta, then 8 years old.
All of them dance to the sound marked
for them by a complete ‘background’ of guitarists
and cantaores. The toque is taken care of by Román
Vicenti and El Perla. The voices are those of cantaores
El Canastero, José
Anillo, Pepe de Pura, María Vizárraga
and Mara Rey. The lineup is completed with Farruquito
as musical director, choreographer and author of the music
(together with Vicenti).
The DVD’s extra contents include
previously unreleased photographs and footage from the
backstage. It is also accompanied by a booklet with texts
about the artists in Spanish and English, plus an introduction
by producer Ricardo Pachón. In his opinion, “this
film faithfully reflects the state of this latest generation,
which is undoubtedly the one that has most purely and
faithfully preserved patriarch Farruco’s school”.
