Duquende
presents ‘Mi forma de vivir’ at Suma Flamenca 2007.
Madrid continues to brim over with flamenco this spring. On
Thursday, May 17th, the Teatro Albéniz welcomed the presentation
of Duquende’s new album. The cantaor, accompanied on toque
by Chicuelo,
plus viola, choruses and percussion, focused on songs por tangos,
bulerías and alegrías like ‘Tu camisita
de flores’, ‘Andar y andar’, ‘Sombras’
and ‘Al son del viento’. But he also found room
for deeper cantes such as the opening martinete and, alone with
the guitar, soleá and fandangos. Despite the good work
and depth of the cantaor, whose quejío is a trademark
of today’s flamenco cante, he wasn’t accompanied
warmly by the theater which, as in the performance
by Arcángel, was only half full; or by the sound
quality.
