Flamenco continues to win over leading
stages. Now it’s Joaquín Cortés who,
after dancing before thousands of spectators all over the
world, makes his début on Broadway. The Córdoba-born
bailaor presents ‘Mi soledad’ from December
11th to 22nd at New York’s Palace Theatre, a show
which premiered in May 2005 in Mexico.
It isn’t the first time flamenco
has made its way into the theaters of the ‘Big Apple’.
Besides the annual edition of the Flamenco Festival at the
City Center since 2001, María Pagés spent
a season at the Joyce Theater with ‘Flamenco Republic’
in 2004 and, traveling back in time, Carmen Amaya’s
performances in the 1940s go down in the history of New
York show business.
European ambassador
Elsewhere, the Córdoba-born artist
will represent the Romani race in the European Parliament
beginning next January, heading a project with a permanent
office and aims regarding integration and education.
