New World Flamenco Festival once
again lays stakes on a production of its own. ‘¡Somos
flamencos!’ (‘We’re flamencos!’)
is the show which will open the seventh edition of the
event, which is to be held August 8th to 17th, 2008 at
The Barclay Theatre in Irvine (California, the United
States). The new show has in its ranks artists such as
bailaores María
José Franco and Juan Ogalla, and cantaores
Encarna
Anillo and David Lagos. The event’s other main
attraction is the show ‘De tablao’ by Antonio
el Pipa. The program is completed with film showings,
courses and an exhibit by Daniel Muñoz, official

Flamenco’s new generation bursts
on the scene at New World Flamenco Festival 2008. A select
group of cantaores and bailaores from Jerez and Cádiz
shape up the self-produced show ‘¡Somos Flamencos!’.
The show - on the bill the 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th and 13th
- has a lineup consisting of bailaores María José
Franco, Juan Ogalla, Andrés
Peña and David Paniagua; cantaores Encarna
Anillo, David
Lagos and Manuel de la Malena; and guitarists Eugenio
Iglesias, Miguel Pérez and Ricardo Rivera. Joining
them on stage is American bailaora Yaelisa, the festival’s
artistic director.
Antonio
el Pipa will also be a special star at the festival,
which he attends this time with his show ‘De tablao’.
The show will be performed on August 15th, 16th and 17th.
It is precisely the Jerez-born bailaor who appears in
the cast of the film ‘Gypsy Caravan’ by Jasmine
Dellal, which is to be shown at the University Town Center
on August 14th. The offer of related activities is completed
by master classes in cante, baile and guitar, as well
as the photo exhibit by Daniel
Muñoz, official photographer of Flamenco-world.com.
