Pitingo knocks up a notch the fusion between flamenco and soul which he laid out on his début album, ‘Pitingo con Habichuelas’. The Huelva-born cantaor presents the show ‘Soulería’ in which, accompanied by Juan Camborio on guitar and the gospel group Black Heritage Singers of New Orleans, he does versions of songs by international groups and soloists. The concert will be recorded during the performances scheduled from November 30th to December 9th at the Teatro Häagen-Dazs Calderón in Madrid for its subsequent release on CD and DVD.

Pitingo on 'Soulería'

‘Soulería’ is a show in which Pitingo combines music, video-creation and contemporary flamenco dancing. The repertoire which the Huelva-born cantaor performs accompanied on toque by Juan Camborio and on vocals by the gospel group Black Heritage Singers of New Orleans includes songs by Bob Marley, Nirvana, Ray Charles, The Police, Aretha Franklin and The Beatles, among others.

The concert is split up into four blocks with a total of eighteen songs. The first one is entitled ‘A veces no hacer nada es hacer algo’ (‘Sometimes Doing Nothing Is Doing Something’), which mixes cantes such as the trilla and fandangos with songs like ‘Roxanne’, ‘No Woman No Cry’ and ‘Yesterday’. ‘La pausa es una parte del camino’ (‘The Break Is a Part of the Road’) is the second block, consisting of a cante por granaína and ‘Killing Me Softly’. It is followed by ‘Sólo vale la pena esperar lo inesperado’ (‘It’s Only Worthwhile to Expect the Unexpected’), with five songs, among them, ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ and ‘Gwendolyn’. Saved for the end are ‘Respect’, ‘Let It Be’ and a flamenco grand finale.

During the performances scheduled from November 30th to December 9th, 2007 at the Teatro Häagen-Dazs Calderón in Madrid, the show is going to be recorded for its subsequent release on CD and DVD by the record company Universal.
