Fifteen years ago, a young cantaor
became known at the contest of La Unión’s
Cante de las Minas Festival. But he wasn’t just
another of the many winners of the Lámpara Minera.
The award gave the definitive boost to Miguel
Poveda, who now returns to star in the lineup of the
festival after winning no less than the 2007 National
Music Prize. But the Catalan cantaor will be just one
of the attractions in this edition which, from August
7th to 16th, 2008, will also include performances by the
Ballet Nacional de España (Spanish National Ballet),
Antonio Canales, Rafaela Carrasco and Cañizares,
among other artists. The festival, which sports a poster
this year designed by José Lucas, pays tribute
to recently deceased cantaor Pencho Cros. The last four
days will be devoted to the contest in which young cantaores,
guitarists and bailaores will compete, respectively, for
the ‘Lámpara’, the ‘Bordón’
and the ‘Desplante’.
