The cultural venues in Madrid are starting to rev up their engines in anticipation of the coming summer. Contemporary dance, world music, latin pop... and of course, flamenco gather on the bill of Veranos de la Villa 2008. Cante, baile and toque will have their specific series outdoors at the Sabatini Gardens. Shows are scheduled from August 2nd to 16th by artists such as bailaores Manuela Carrasco, Antonio Canales and Joaquín Grilo, cantaores Enrique Morente, El Lebrijano, Esperanza Fernández and Lole, and guitarist Paco Cepero, among many others.

But flamenco also appears in other more generalist series. Son de la Frontera will accompany Martirio in her face-off with Lila Downs at the Cuartel del Conde Duque. At the Teatro Fernán Gómez - formerly, Centro Cultural de la Villa -, Dospormedio & Compañía will present ‘Flamenco XXI’, the surprise show at Festival de Jerez 2008. Other contemporary flamenco dancing shows will be performed in August in the ‘La otra mirada del flamenco’ (‘Flamenco’s Other Regard’) series at the Teatro Pradillo, such as ‘ConCierto Gusto’ by Rafaela Carrasco and ‘Reencuentros’ by Joaquín Ruiz.
